ETSU men finish 8th at Puerto Rico Classic
Sophomore Rhys Davies fired a 68 on Tuesday. Tuesday, March 01, 2005 JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 1, 2005) - East Tennessee State University sophomore Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) and freshman Gareth Davis (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) fired 4-under-par 68s during the third and final round Tuesday in the Puerto Rico Classic at the Westin Rio Mar Golf Club. Davies and Davis powered ETSU to an eighth place team finish, as the Bucs finished 27 strokes back of team champion Georgia Tech, which finished at 19-under. Arizona State's Alejandro Canizares took home the individual team title with a three-round score of 12-under par 204, and the top ETSU individual finisher was freshman Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland), who placed tied for 12th at 3-under-par 213.
Other ETSU results included Davies' 21st-place finish at 217, and senior Cennydd Mills (Cardiff, Wales), who placed tied for 28th at 219. Shaw ended the event tied for 43rd, and senior Jeremy Hobson finished 90th. The Bucs will return to action beginning on March 6 at the Seminole Intercollegiate in Tallahassee, Fla.
