JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2005) - Sophomore Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) fired a 3-under-par 69 to tie for the first-round lead at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by UAB at the Shoal Creek Golf Club in Birmingham, Ala. Second round play was postponed until Tuesday when third and final round play will also be completed.

Shaw's efforts helped the Bucs to a 7th-place standing in the 15-team field, just 10 strokes back of team leader LSU, who posted a team score of 284. Shaw is currently tied atop the individual leaderboard with Notre Dame's Cole Isban, as well as LSU's Beck Troutman and Chris Wells.

Along with Shaw, junior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales), who ended the 2004-05 season as the nation's No. 3-ranked player by Golfweek, fired an even-par 72 and is currently tied for 12th. Along with Davies, true freshmen Adam Hodkinson (Dore, England) and Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) finished their first-ever collegiate rounds tied for 41st and 67th, respectively, while sophomore Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) ended the first circuit tied for 63rd.
