RUTHER GLEN, Va. (Oct. 3, 2005) - Thanks to Top 10 individual performances from junior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) and sophomore Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), the ETSU men's golf team currently stands in sixth place following Monday's first day of action in the VCU/Mattaponi Springs Shootout at the Mattaponi Springs Golf Club.

Davies fired a 5-under-par 67 in the second round to go with an even-par 72 in the first round and finished in sixth-place on the leaderboard, just six strokes off the pace set by leader Kyle Reifers of Wake Forest, who posted a two-round score of 11-under 133. Shaw fired a 71 in the morning and followed that with a 70 in the afternoon to finish 3-under for the day and tied for 10th.

The Bucs are currently 20 strokes back of team-leading Wake Forest after firing a two-round score of 2-over 578. Meanwhile, the Demon Deacons hold a sizeable eight-stroke advantage over second-place Tulsa heading into the final day of play.

Other ETSU results included sophomore Cian McNamara (Limerick, Ireland) tying for 48th, while freshmen Adam Hodkinson (Dore, England) and Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) finishing tied for 53rd and 72nd, respectively.

Play will conclude on Tuesday and ETSU fans can keep up with the action live by clicking on Golfstat.com. For a complete wrap up following the day's play, visit ETSUBucs.com.
