STELLENBOSCH, South Africa (Oct. 27, 2006) - Watch out for the boys from Wales.

ETSU senior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) fired an 8-under-par 64 and his Welsh teammate Nigel Edwards posted a 4-under 68 to move their team into a tie for second place with the United States following third round play Saturday in the World Amatuer Team Championship at the Stellenbosch Golf Club. Entering Sunday's fourth and final round, both the Welsh and United States (13-under) trail the Netherlands (15-under) by two strokes.

Individually, Davies - who stands at 3-under for the event - enjoyed the low round of the day to blitz from a tie for 77th after the second round to a tie for 13th after the third round. While he is still eight strokes off the pace of the Netherlands' Wil Besseling, he still is in contention for a quality finish.

Meanwhile, Davies' ETSU teammate junior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland), put together a solid 1-over 73 effort and finished the day tied for 27th individually. His Irish team is currently tied for 8th at 8-under for the event.

This year marks the first time the four-day championship has been played in Africa. Each team consists of two or three golfers, with the two lowest individual scores of each day becoming the team's aggregate score. The teams from Wales and Ireland both have three players attending the event. The 72-hole event consist of 74 teams competing for the coveted Eisenhower Trophy.
