STELLENBOSCH, South Africa (Oct. 27, 2006) - ETSU junior Gareth Shaw (Lisburn, Northern Ireland) fired an impressive 3-under-par 69 in Friday's second round to finish at 2-under-par for the event and keep his Ireland team in contention at the World Amateur Team Championships.

Shaw and the Irish are currently tied for seventh at 4-under, six strokes back of tournament-leading Canada, which stands at 10-under. Meanwhile, Shaw will enter the third round at the Stellenbosch Golf Club just five strokes off the pace of individual leaders Chris Kirk of the United States and Richard Scott of Canada.

ETSU senior Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) and his Welsh teammates fell off the pace on Friday, dropping into a tie for 15th on the team leaderboard at 1-under. Davies stumbled as well, posting a 4-over 76 to finish the day tied for 77th individually.

This year marks the first time the four-day championship has been played in Africa. Each team consists of two or three golfers, with the two lowest individual scores of each day becoming the team's aggregate score. The teams from Wales and Ireland both have three players attending the event. The 72-hole event consist of 74 teams competing for the coveted Eisenhower Trophy.
