JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 17, 2010) - Former ETSU All-American Rhys Davies (Bridgend, Wales) and current rising senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) are both playing on two of golf's most prestigious stages this weekend.
Davies, the three-time first team All-American, 10-time collegiate winner at ETSU and current European Tour star, opened first round play in the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach on Thursday. He fired a 7-over-par 78 on the day and stands in 119th place on the leaderboard. However, he still has Friday's second round to hopefully make a move and make the cut at the Open.
Meanwhile, Enoch advanced to the quarterfinals of the British Amateur on Thursday. Ironically, he needed an extra hole in the match play format to defeat former ETSU player Jordan Findlay (Fraserburgh, Scotland) earlier in the day. Enoch will face England's Matthew Nixon on Friday, and semifinal action is set for later in the day. The 36-hole final will be played on Saturday.
