Men's golf finishes 10th at General Hackler Championship
Monday, March 14, 2011 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (Mar. 14, 2011) - ETSU freshman Spencer Lawson (Raleigh, N.C.) and senior Paul O'Kane (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) both finished in the top-15 individually to lead the Bucs to a 10th place team finish at the General Hackler Championship on Monday afternoon. Lawson finished the event tied for 11th position at +6 (74-69-79—222) overall, while O'Kane finished tied for 13th at +7 (74-73-76—223) on the par-72, 6,950-yard TPC of Myrtle Beach layout.
No. 9 Augusta State won the team championship after firing a tournament-best 281 in Monday's final round to come from 14-shots behind to win the title. The Jaguars finished the event at 14-over to win by three shots. No. 17 Virginia had the lead after two rounds of play, but the Cavaliers finished second after a final round 298 for a 17-over total. No. 13 Auburn finished in third at 26-over. No. 41 Tennessee (+29) and No. 43 Pepperdine (+33) rounded out the top five.
Henrik Norlander of Augusta State won the individual title thanks to an impressive 5-under 67 in the final round to finish at 6-under overall. Amory Davis (2-under) of Virginia and Andrew Putnam (1-under) of Pepperdine were the only other players in the field to finish under-par.
ETSU junior Devin Komline (Dorset, Vermont) finished tied for 43rd at 17-over (80-71-82—233) in the 92-player field.
Patrick Spraggs (Rochford, England) and Lucas Armstrong (Church Hill, Tennessee) finished tied for 68th and tied for 76th to round out the ETSU scoring. Spraggs finished at 24-over (81-80-79—240), while Armstrong finished three strokes back at 27-over (83-78-82—243).
ETSU returns to action next Sunday, Mar. 20 when they take part in the Callaway Match Play event in Ball Ground, Ga.
