PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (Jan. 30, 2012) – ETSU senior Rhys Enoch (Cornwall, England) fired a second round 1-under-par 71 to sit in a tie for eighth place on the individual leaderboard at 4-over total during the opening day of the Sea Best Invitational at the famed PLAYERS Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass.
ETSU currently sits in a tie for seventh position with No. 41 East Carolina on the team leaderboard at +37 (315-298—613). The Bucs moved up two spots on the leaderboard from the first round. The Bucs were in ninth after the opening 18-holes.
Enoch’s steady second round included three birdies and just two bogeys. He along with freshman Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) led the way for the Bucs in the opening 18-holes as each fired rounds of 77 (+5). Pugh also improved during his final round as he recorded a solid 1-over-par 73 to sit in a tie for 16th overall at 6-over.
Freshman Scott Gibson (Dumfries, Scotland) had a dramatic eight-shot improvement from his first to second round as he came in with a steady even-par second round. Gibson opened the day with an 80 (+8) and he now sits in a tie for 23rd at +8 (80-72—152).
No. 32-ranked Florida sits atop the team standings after two-rounds with an 11-over (587) total. The Gators are 11-shots clear of the field. No. 36 Liberty is in second at 22-over, while No. 7 North Florida is in third at 30-over. Florida closed out the day with the lowest team score of the tournament – a 4-under-par 284.
T.J. Vogel of Florida has the individual lead at 2-under-par overall. Brandon Pena of Florida Gulf Coast is just one shot back at 1-under. The course was playing extremely difficult as Vogel and Varner are the only two in the 69-player field currently under-par after 36-holes. Harold Varner of East Carolina sits just two back of the lead at even-par.
ETSU freshman Tom Heggarty (Cheshire, England) is tied for 55th at 163 (+19). Heggarty opened the day with an 81 before closing out the afternoon with an 82.
Tee times for Tuesday’s 18-holes will begin with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start. The Bucs will be paired with Florida Gulf Coast and East Carolina on day two beginning at 9:42 a.m. Live scoring for the tournament will be available through golfstat.com.
