ETSU Men’s Golf Receives GCAA Team Academic Honor

Bucs are one of 68 Division I programs to be named to the academic list

NORMAN, Okla. (Aug. 1, 2012) – The Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) released their 2012 Team All-Academic awards on Wednesday, and the ETSU men’s golf team received the accolade after registering a cumulative grade point average above a 3.0 this past academic year.

The Bucs, who had six golfers placed on the Atlantic Sun All-Academic list (3.0 GPA or higher), recorded a team GPA of 3.155 in 2011-12. Overall, 68 Division I schools (124 total) were recipients of the honor, while ETSU was one of three schools in the A-Sun be named to the list.

Peter Wilson (Locust Valley, N.Y.) led the Blue and Gold with a 3.86 GPA and also graduated with A-Sun Presidential honors in May. Joining Wilson with a 3.0 GPA or higher were Rhys Enoch (3.50), Sam Edwards (3.40), Tom Heggarty (3.30), Rhys Pugh (3.27), and Scott Gibson (3.03).

This marked the fourth straight year ETSU received the GCAA Team Academic award.

DePaul (Division I), Post (Division II), Manhattanville (Division III), Bethel College (Kan.) (NAIA), Dodge City CC (NJCAA DI) and South Mountain CC (NJCAA DII) were named Academic National Champions for their respective division announced the GCAA. DePaul posted the highest overall team GPA for all divisions with a 3.69.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college or university must submit the GPAs for each player on its official squad list for the academic year.
