MACON, Ga. (Oct. 23, 2013) – For the second time this month, ETSU men’s golfer Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) received Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week honors, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Playing in one of the most prestigious and difficult tournaments, Pugh finished tied for 10th at last weekend’s U.S. Collegiate Championship, held at The Golf Club of Georgia – Lakeside Course. Pugh, who has placed in the top-10 in each of his last three tournaments, fired a 3-under-par 213 (69-71-73) to lead the Blue and Gold. Pugh’s finish was the best by a Buccaneer in the tournament since Rhys Enoch tied for ninth at the 2009 U.S. Collegiate Championship.
The tournament field featured 12 ranked teams, including five in the top-10, while 11 golfers were ranked in the top-30 of the Golfweek rankings.
This marks the third weekly honor of Pugh’s career. Pugh, a sport management major, is the first ETSU golfer to win multiple A-Sun Golfer of the Week honors in one season. The weekly honor was established in 2011 as the league previously featured the Golfer of the Month award.
Pugh and the Bucs wrap up their fall season in two weeks as ETSU heads to Kauai, Hawaii for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational, which begins Monday, Nov. 4.
