Bucs begin NCAA Regional action Thursday in Eugene

ETSU makes 23rd NCAA Regional appearance this week in Oregon
EUGENE, Ore. (May 14, 2014) – The ETSU men’s golf team makes its 23rd NCAA Regional appearance this week as the Bucs begin play in the Eugene Regional on Thursday from the Eugene Country Club.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS
The Bucs fired a 20-over-par 884 (299-293-292) and finished third at the Atlantic Sun Championship, which was held April 20-22 at the The Legends Golf Club in Braselton, Ga.
ETSU finished 10 shots behind Mercer – who won its first-ever conference championship – by finishing at 10-over-par 874 (290-291-293), while Trey Rule also claimed the individual title by firing a 1-under-par 215 (71-73-71).
The Bucs had three players finish in the top 10 as Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) and Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) tied for fifth and Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.) tied for seventh. Meronk (73-73-73) and Pugh (76-72-71) – who both landed second team All-Atlantic Sun honors – posted scores of 3-over-par 219, while Hickman was 4-over 220.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL
The three-day tournament will be held at the Eugene Country Club, which is a par-70, 6,990-yard layout.
Eighteen holes will take place from Friday through Sunday, with groups starting from either the No. 1 or No. 10 tee box at 11 a.m. EDT.
The Bucs are one of 13 teams in the regional and the top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship. In addition, 10 individual golfers make up the tournament field.
ETSU is making its 23rd NCAA Regional appearance and 19th under head coach Fred Warren – who last directed the Bucs to the NCAAs in 2010.
The Blue and Gold received the No. 10 seed in the regional and are one of three Tennessee schools to make the trek to the Pacific Northwest. Tennessee (No. 8 seed) and Chattanooga (No. 11 seed) are the other two programs from the Volunteer state to join the Blue and Gold in Oregon.
ETSU is one of four programs from the Atlantic Sun Conference to appear in an NCAA Regional, while the Bucs will be joined by North Florida (No. 9 seed) in Eugene. Mercer, the A-Sun champion, earned the No. 5 seed in the Raleigh Regional and Kennesaw State is the No. 7 seed in the Auburn Regional.

Joining Pugh, Meronk and Hickman is sophomore Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) and freshman Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland).
The Bucs are grouped with Chattanooga and Wichita State, and tee off at 12:15 EDT from the 10th tee box.
