MACON, Ga. (Oct. 2, 2013) – After posting a top-10 finish at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational earlier in the week, ETSU junior Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) received Atlantic Sun Golfer of the Week honors, which was announced by the league office on Wednesday.
Pugh led the Blue and Gold by registering a 2-over-par 215 (69-74-72) en route to a ninth-place finish in Columbus. The Welshman fired a 2-under 69 in Monday’s opening round, marking his lowest score of the young season.
Pugh was one of 10 golfers to birdie the par-4, 429-yard No. 3 and the par-4, 473-yard No. 11 in the tournament. The tournament field included ranked teams such as fifth-ranked California, sixth-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 10 Oklahoma and No. 19 Kent State.
This marks the second career weekly honor for Pugh.
The ETSU men’s golf team is back in action Monday as the Bucs travel to Raleigh, N.C., for the Wolfpack Intercollegiate.
