RALEIGH, N.C. (Oct. 5, 2014) – Prior to hosting the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate next weekend, the 30th-ranked ETSU men’s golf team will first look defend its title at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, which begins Monday morning at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course at NC State University.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BUCS
The Bucs are coming off a fifth-place showing at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational, which was held Sept. 28-29 at the Ohio State University Golf Club – Scarlet Course.
Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) led the Blue and Gold for the second straight tournament as the Buccaneer junior tied for sixth at 2-over-par 215 (68-74-73). Meronk, who is ranked No. 25 in the Golfweek rankings, was one of three golfers to post an eagle in the tournament.
Meanwhile, senior Rhys Pugh (Pontypridd, Wales) also registered a top-15 placing as he tied for 14th. Pugh finished the 54-hole tournament at 5-over-par 218 (75-70-73).
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT
The two-day, 54-hole tournament begins Monday with a shotgun start beginning at 8 a.m. The second round will also be played on Monday, while the final round gets underway Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
The tournament is hosted by NC State as the event will be held on its home turf at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course.
ETSU won the tournament last year with a three-round score of 21-under-par 843 (276-281-286), while Gudmundur Kristjansson (Reykjavik, Iceland) recorded his best collegiate showing by finishing runner-up at 11-under-par 205 (68-66-71). In total, the Blue and Gold had four golfers place in the top-11.
Joining ETSU and NC State (A & B Team) in the field is Rhode Island, East Carolina, Boston College, Seton Hall, Bowling Green, Campbell, Loyola (Maryland), Wofford, Georgia Southern, Temple, UNCG, George Washington, Lipscomb, Western Carolina and USC Upstate.
Four teams are ranked in the top-75 of the Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings, which includes No. 32 East Carolina, No. 35 ETSU, No. 67 UNCG, and No. 71 NC State.
Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Śląskie, Poland), Chris Hickman (Centreville, Md.) and Tom Heggarty (Cheshire, England) join Pugh and Meronk in ETSU’s lineup this week.
The Bucs’ lineup features a pair of seniors, two juniors and a sophomore, while Heggarty will make his season debut this week in Raleigh.
Freshman Cayman Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) will play as an individual.
ETSU is paired with NC State and Loyola (Maryland).
