JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 10, 2014) – Prior to taking final exams and heading home for the holiday break, the ETSU men’s golf team partnered with the Humane Society of Washington County over the weekend to assist with a pet adoption at Petsmart.

The Bucs helped with transporting animals from the shelter to the adoption event. During the event, the team served as handlers so each dog could be showcased to potential adopters.

When asked about helping with the pet adoption, junior Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) and the Bucs were excited to give back to the community.

“We really enjoyed helping out with the pet adoption on Saturday and giving back to the community” said Meronk. “I really like animals, so it was rewarding to see the pets find a home.”

Overall, 13 pets were adopted on Saturday, and Lucinda Grandy, President of the Humane Society of Washington County, said the men’s golf team played a key role.

“We would like to thank the ETSU men’s golf team for their time and effort in helping us with the pet adoption,” said Grandy. “The team’s support enabled us to bring more dogs from the shelter.”

About the Humane Society of Washington County

Our mission is to see Washington County become a no-kill community. Our efforts are always focused on saving the lives of animals.

When you adopt a pet from the shelter or a foster home, you are emptying out a space in the shelter or opening a new slot for another animal to be placed in a home that is safe from euthanasia. Adopting our rescue animals decreases euthanasia of animals and adopters receive a pet that has been spayed or neutered.

As an organization, we need more foster homes for cats and dogs, supplies, and donations. We get no financial assistance from our local government. We rely on volunteers for transporting animals, working adoption events, and preparing animals for forever homes.

We encourage everyone to become a member of the Humane Society of Washington County.
