EL PASO, Texas (Nov. 8, 2015) – ETSU senior Adrian Meronk (Wroclaw, Poland) finished tied for fifth at the 41st annual Sun Bowl Western Refining All-America Golf Classic, which concluded on Sunday from the El Paso Country Club.
Meronk, who entered the final round in second-place, recorded a 2-over 73 on Sunday and tied with Texas’ Beau Hossler at 2-under-par 211. The Wroclaw, Poland native inched within a shot of the leader after birdying the par-4, No. 2, but then bogeyed four of the next eight holes moving him to 3-over for the round. From there, Meronk bounced back with birdies on the par-4, No. 11 and the par-5, No. 13, but a double-bogey on the par-4, 16th took him out of contention for the title.
Vanderbilt’s Zack Jaworski earned medalist honors as he fired a 4-under 67 in Sunday’s final round and finished the 54-hole championship at 6-under-par 207 (71-69-67). Jaworski began the day in fifth-place, but totaled six birdies in the round to propel him atop the leaderboard.
A pair of golfers – including Jaworksi’s teammate Matthias Schwab, 36-hole leader Claudio Correa (South Florida) and Zach Wright (LSU) – tied for second at 4-under-par 209.
To be eligible for the tournament, student-athletes must have been named as an All-America team honoree during the previous year. Meronk received All-America accolades from PING and Golfweek.
A total of 11 All-Americans playing in the tournament ranked among the top 100 amateur golfers, according to the World Amateur Golf Rankings, including Meronk who ranks 52nd. Joining Meronk among the top-ranked players were: Hossler (No. 7), Texas sophomore Scottie Scheffler (No. 15), Schwab (No. 17) and Louisville senior Robin Sciot-Siegrist (No. 24).
