ETSU heads to Raleigh for Wolfpack Spring Open

RALEIGH, N.C. (April 13, 2017) – The ETSU men’s golf team makes its final tune up before the 2017 Southern Conference Championships, as the Buccaneers head to Raleigh, N.C. for the Wolfpack Spring Open, which begins Friday morning at Lonnie Poole Golf Course. 

ABOUT THE BUCS

Senior Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Slaskie, Poland) leads the Blue and Gold with a 71.73 scoring average and has registered four top-10 finishes this season – including two runner-ups … Gradecki ranks second in the SoCon in scoring average, while his 65 posted at the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational is the lowest score registered by a SoCon golfer this season. 

ETSU is coming off a 10th-place showing at the Mason Rudolph Championship, which was held March 31-April 2 at Vanderbilt Legends Club South Course. 

Gradecki led the Bucs last time out as he finished tied for 22nd at 2-under-par 211, while freshman Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) posted a 72 in the final round of the tournament and Cayman Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) played the final two rounds at 2-over-par. 

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

The Wolfpack Spring Intercollegiate begins Friday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., while Saturday’s final round will have groups starting from No. 1 and No. 10 at 8 a.m. … The teams will play 36 holes on Friday and the final 18 holes on Saturday.  

The lowest four scores from a five-member team count toward the team totals. 

The Lonnie Poole Golf Course is a par-71, 7,046-yard layout … Lonnie Poole Golf Course hosted the 2014 NCAA Men's Regional and the 2015 NCAA Women's Regional and will be home to the 2018 NCAA Men's Regional. 

NC State, the tournament host, is the two-time defending champion as the Wolfpack won by eight shots over South Florida last year. 

The Bucs have recent success on this course as ETSU won at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course in 2013, while finishing second in 2014 and placing fourth last year. 

THE FIELD

ETSU and NC State are joined by Clemson, South Florida, MTSU, Virginia Tech, UNCG, Western Carolina, Maryland, UNCW, Loyola-Maryland, Francis Marion and Temple. 

Three teams are ranked in the top 50 – No. 14 Clemson, No. 42 NC State and No. 50 MTSU. 

ETSU’S LINEUP

Joining, Gradecki, Hulbert and Ratliff in this weekend’s lineup are Zack Ford (Cochranton, Pa.) and Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea). 

ETSU’s lineup features two freshmen, one sophomore, one junior and one senior.
