COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. (May 14, 2017) – The ETSU men’s golf team makes its fourth straight NCAA Regional appearance and its 26th in program history, as the Buccaneers begin play in the NCAA College Grove Regional on Monday from The Grove Club.
ABOUT THE BUCS
ETSU won its third straight Southern Conference Championship three weeks ago by defeating UNCG by eight shots and Wofford by 16 … Overall, the Buccaneers registered a three-day tournament score of 18-over-par 882 (292-300-290) to earn their first victory of the season.
Sophomore Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea) earned medalist honors as he defeated UNCG’s Jonathan Brightwell in a playoff en route to finishing with a 54-hole score of 2-over-par 218 … The win was the first in Kim’s collegiate career as he posted a par on the first playoff hole to defeat the SoCon Freshman of the Year.
Kim became the second Buccaneer in as many years to claim the individual title as Adrian Meronk accomplished the feat in 2016. Kim joins a list of 13 other Buccaneers to win an individual SoCon title and becomes the 22nd conference tournament medalist in program history.
Senior Mateusz Gradecki (Oborniki Slaskie, Poland) finished seventh at the conference tournament and earned All-Conference honors for the first time in his career, while Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) and Ben Reichert (East Amherst, N.Y.) were placed on the all-freshman team.
Hulbert placed third at the championship after turning in a 54-hole score of 3-over-par 219 (71-77-71), while junior Cayman Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) tied his best collegiate finish after placing tied for 15th.
Coach Warren received his SoCon-leading 12th Coach of the Year honor … Warren has won a record-best 15 SoCon titles, while ETSU claimed its 25th overall conference title … Overall, Warren has totaled 54 tournament wins at ETSU.
Gradecki has totaled the second-lowest scoring average in the SoCon this season (71.94), while the Buccaneer leader played in all 11 tournaments for the Blue and Gold this season and turned in five top-10 finishes … In 32 total rounds, Gradecki registered seven in the 60s and totaled 16 rounds of par or better.
Reichert and Hulbert recorded the second and third-lowest scoring averages among SoCon freshmen, respectively. Reichert posted a scoring average of 74.08 and Hulbert tallied a mark of 74.50.
ABOUT THE REGIONAL
The regional will be contested on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from The Grove Club in College Grove, Tenn., which is a par-72, 7,383-yard layout.
The Grove Golf Course has hosted tournaments such as the Web.com Future Star Shootout, USGA Senior Amateur Qualifier and the Franklin American Mortgage Intercollegiate.
Eighteen holes will be played each day with the final round being contested on Wednesday.
The Bucs are one of 13 teams in the regional, and the top five teams advance to the NCAA Championship. In addition, 10 individual golfers make up the tournament field. The top individual player not to be a member of one of the top five teams will also earn a spot in the championship.
MTSU is hosting The College Grove Regional.
The Bucs will be paired with TCU and Troy in round one with ETSU teeing off from No. 10 starting at 10:15 a.m. (Eastern).
