Tournament to be held, Friday, Saturday and Sunday at University of Louisville Golf Club

SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 13, 2018) – After opening its fall season last weekend in Durham, N.C., the ETSU men’s golf team heads to the Bluegrass State as the Buccaneers gear up for the Louisville Cardinal Challenge, which begins Friday at the University of Louisville Golf Club.

ABOUT THE BUCS

The Bucs are coming off a seventh-place finish in last weekend’s season opener at the Rod Myers Invitational … ETSU finished with a team score of 11-over-par 875 (289-293-293) en route to finishing ahead of reigning Southern Conference champion UNCG and ACC contender Virginia Tech.

Sophomore Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) paced the Blue and Gold as he posted his fifth straight top-20 finish … Go, who recorded three straight rounds of even-par 72, placed tied for 17th … For the weekend, Go registered 37 pars, seven birdies and one eagle.

Fellow sophomore Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tenn.), fresh off advancing to match play at last month’s U.S. Amateur, finished tied for 21st at 1-over-par 217 … Rhea carded the lowest round of the weekend for the Blue and Gold after turning in a 2-under 70 in the opening round on Saturday … Rhea and junior Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) led the Bucs with nine birdies each for the tournament.

As a team, ETSU totaled three eagles on the weekend, which tied them with Cincinnati for the most among the 13-team team field … Joining Go with an eagle last weekend were Geuntae Kim (Daegu, South Korea) and Dhaivat Pandya (Dayton, Ohio).

ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT

This weekend’s format is a 54-hole tournament with rounds being played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from the University of Louisville Golf Club (par-72/7,101 yards).

Teams will tee off from No. 1 and No. 10 beginning at 9 a.m. on Friday and Saturday … Sunday’s round will begin at 8:30 a.m.  

Tournament host Louisville won the 2017 event, while the Bucs placed fifth in the 13-team field.

Geuntae Kim finished tied for 11th at 3-over-par 219 in last year’s tournament.

TOURNAMENT FIELD

Joining ETSU and No. 48 Louisville in this weekend’s field include No. 17 Duke, No. 20 North Carolina, No. 23 USF, No. 27 Kentucky, No. 28 Wake Forest, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Lamar, Louisiana Lafayette, Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Mississippi State, Nebraska and Western Kentucky.

ETSU’s LINEUP

ETSU’s lineup this weekend consists of No. 1 Shiso Go, No. 2 Jack Rhea, No. 3 Geuntae Kim, No. 4 Dhaivat Pandya and No. 5 Zack Ford.

The Bucs’ lineup features one senior, one junior, three sophomores and one freshman.

Trevor Hulbert will be playing as an individual … Hulbert will tee off from No. 1 at 11 a.m.

ETSU will be paired with Wake Forest, North Carolina and Kentucky in Friday’s opening round … They will tee off from No. 1 starting at 10 a.m.
