ALPHARETTA, Ga. (Oct. 21, 2018) -- ETSU senior Geuntae Kim(Daegu, South Korea) led the ETSU men’s golf team at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational, which wrapped up play on Sunday afternoon from the Lakeside Course.
Kim posted a 1-over 73 in the Sunday’s final round en route to finishing tied for 21st in a field that featured four players ranked in the top 10 and 11 in the top 25. The Buccaneer senior finished with a 54-hole total of even-par 216 (69-74-73).
Sophomore Jack Rhea (Jonesborough, Tenn.) paced the Blue and Gold on Sunday as he tied his season low with a 4-under 68. Rhea, who collected six birdies, 10 pars and two bogeys on his scorecard, finished tied for 61st (+9).
Southern California swept both the team and individual titles. The 10th-ranked Trojans rallied past No. 15 Clemson to earn the team win at 22-under-par 842 (278-280-284), while No. 13 Justin Suh finished at 14-under-par 202 (67-67-68) to earn medalist honors by four strokes.
USC carded a 4-under 284 in Sunday’s final round to knock off the Tigers by one shot, while No. 3 Georgia Tech finished third at 19-under-par 845 (270-289-286). No. 11 Wake Forest placed fourth at 16-under-par 848 (276-281-291) and No. 5 Alabama rounded out the top-five at 15-under-par 849 (286-278-285).
ETSU finished 12th at 19-over-par 883 (302-292-296) en route to placing ahead of No. 49 TCU by five shots and No. 47 New Mexico by seven shots.
Shiso Go (Kanagawa, Japan) finished tied for 56th (+7), Austin Carter (Kingsport, Tenn.)placed 64th (+10) and Trevor Hulbert (Orlando, Fla.) tied for 67th (+13).
The Bucs end their fall season next weekend when ETSU heads to Hawaii for the Warrior Princeville Makai Invitational. The three-day, 54-hole tournament begins next Sunday, Oct. 28.
