The Bucs come into the match having split their preseason exhibitions with a win over King College at home, 2-0, and a loss at UNC Asheville, 3-1. ETSU features a young squad with 21 freshmen on the roster. Although the team is inexperienced, head coach Scott Calabrese has brought in a lot of talent in his first year at the helm.
Appalachian State won both of its exhibition matches coming into the contest, defeating Lenoir-Rhyne, 2-0, and Emory & Henry, 8-0. The Mountaineers finished the 2007 season with a record of 6-12-3. Top returners for ASU include Juan Obregon, who was tied for second in points on the team, and J.T. LaBruyere.
Fans who have purchased season or individual game tickets will receive a commemorative ticket along with a ticket holder provided by Citizen's Bank and Wyndham Vacation Resorts. Aramark will also be giving out soccer stress balls throughout the game. Students who are members of Buc Wild will be able to enjoy free food at the Buc Wild tent during the game.
