JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 15, 2010) - ETSU head men's soccer coach Scott Calabrese was named the 2010 NSCAA/Mondo South Region Coach of the Year after leading the Bucs to a 15-6 overall record and an Atlantic Sun Championship, announced the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) earlier this week.
In only the program's third season of action, Calabrese saw the Buccaneers more than double their win total from the first two seasons posting 15 wins which is the tenth best win total in the country out of 204 teams in Division I play. ETSU's .714 winning percentage also ranked 17th in the country.
Calabrese, the 2010 Atlantic Sun Coach of the Year, had two players named to the NSCAA All-South Region Second Team and five to the Atlantic Sun All-Conference teams including A-Sun Freshman of the Year Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria).
The Regional Coaches of the Year were selected by their peers as the selections were made through voting by members of the NSCAA.
Calabrese will join the other seven Regional Coaches of the Year as well as the coaches from each of the four national championship semifinal teams on the ballot for the NSCAA/Mondo National Coach of the Year. Winners of the national award will be announced at the annual NSCAA Awards Banquet, which will be held Friday evening, January 14, at the Hilton Baltimore in conjunction with the 2011 NSCAA Convention.
