Reigning A-Sun Player of the Year in contention for college soccer’s highest individual award
KANSAS City, Kan. (Aug. 20, 2013) – ETSU senior David Geno has been included among college soccer’s most outstanding players as a contender for the 2013 Missouri Athletic Club’s (MAC) Hermann Trophy.
Geno, ETSU’s all-time leader for goals (23), assists (16), and points (62), was featured on the 2013 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List announced during this week’s edition of the “NSCAA Weekly College Highlights and Review Show.”
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the highest individual award in college soccer presented annually to one male and one female athlete. Thirty-four men, including Geno, and 31 women have been identified as potential candidates for this year’s award.
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, the list will be narrowed down to 15 semi-finalists following a vote by NSCAA-affiliated NCAA Division I coaches. From that pool of 30, six finalists (three men and three women) will be chosen for the award, with the winner being announced at a trophy presentation Jan. 10, 2014 at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
Last season, Geno set ETSU single-season records for goals (11), assists (8), and points (30) en route to becoming the first Buccaneer men’s soccer player to win the conference Player of the Year award.
