JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 13, 2008) - For the first time in ETSU Athletics history the Bucs will play collegiate men's soccer as they will open the inaugural season at home against Appalachian State on Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. announced head coach Scott Calabrese and his staff as they released their schedule Thursday afternoon.

"We open the history books for ETSU soccer against a very good Appalachian State program on August 29 in a game which has the potential to become a great local rivalry," Calabrese said. "It is my hope that the ETSU Student body, faculty and staff as well as the local community will come together to support this young program and give our team an edge at Summer-Taylor Stadium."

The Bucs schedule features non-conference opponents North Carolina (Sept. 27), UNC-Greensboro (Sept. 12) and Radford (Nov. 8). Other non-conference opponents include Wofford (Aug. 31), VMI (Sept. 6), Elon (Sept. 14) and High Point (Sept. 20).

"I believe we have put together a very exciting and challenging schedule for 2008," Calabrese said. "We will be playing against strong and established programs such as UNC-Chapel Hill, UNC-Greensboro, Elon, and Appalachian State as well as others, this will be a massive test for our young team. The experience of playing such a strong schedule will build the foundation for our team's growth and development in the coming years."

ETSU will host North Florida (Oct. 3), Jacksonville (Oct. 5), Mercer (Oct. 23), and A-Sun tournament champion Campbell (Oct. 25) in conference play, and will go on the road against Lipscomb (Oct. 10), Belmont (Oct. 10), USC Upstate (Oct. 19), Florida Gulf Coast and finish up with the regular season conference champs Stetson (Nov. 2).

The Bucs wrap up its inaugural season at home against Radford. Following the regular season portion of the schedule the top six teams will compete in the 2008 Atlantic Sun Tournament, as Campbell will host the conference tournament from Nov. 13-15 in Buies Creek, N.C.
