JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 25, 2008) - The ETSU men's soccer team dropped a close soccer match to first place Campbell Saturday afternoon at Summers-Taylor Stadium, 1-0.

"I am very happy with the performance of the team today"," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "I think we responded well to our game against Mercer. Our attitude was excellent, and our work rate was really good."

The Bucs (5-8-1, 1-5-1 A-Sun) had a couple chances in the first half, but were outshot by the Camels 5-3 in the half. The game remained scoreless at the half as neither team was able to get on the board.

In the second half, ETSU took control of play, but could not put away its scoring chances. In the 65th minute Richard Jata put Campbell up 1-0 as he fired a shot off of a free kick past the ETSU keeper into the back of the goal.

ETSU had a couple chances late in the match, but Campbell's defense played tough keeping the Bucs from getting an equalizing goal.

"I think we were a bit unlucky to lose the game," Calabrese said. "We created a lot of chances and limited their chances. I am never happy to not get three points from a game, but when you look at it we had a genuine chance to beat the best team in the conference. I think that bodes well for us going into the last two conference games as we look to make the conference tournament."

The Camels outshot ETSU 11-10 in the match. Sean Hoek (Newburgh, Ind.) and Tony Nunes (Concord, N.C.) both took three shots, while freshman James Holt (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) had six saves in goal for the Bucs.

ETSU is back in action on Oct. 31 at 7 p.m. as the Bucs head to Fort Myers, Fla. to face conference opponent Florida Gulf Coast. Please visit www.ETSUBucs.com for more information on ETSU men's soccer or any other Buccaneer athletic team.
