JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Oct. 7, 2010)
- The ETSU men's soccer team will face one of its toughest weekends of the season as the Bucs head to Florida to face Stetson and Florida Gulf Coast in Atlantic Sun play starting Friday.
The Bucs are slated to face the defending A-Sun Tournament champion Hatters at 7 p.m. Friday in DeLand, Fla., while the FGCU contest is set for 6 p.m. on Sunday in Fort Myers, Fla.
ETSU (7-2-0, 2-0-0 A-Sun) has won five straight after wins against Campbell 4-0 and Mercer 2-1. Junior Aaron Schoenfeld (Knoxville, Tenn.) saw his goal streak come to an end against Mercer as he has scored in three consecutive games. Senior Guilherme Reis (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) was named the A-Sun Defensive Player of the Week for the second time earlier in the week.
The Bucs are 0-3-0 all-time against Stetson after falling to the Hatters in the A-Sun semifinals a year ago, while the FGCU series is even at 1-1-0.
Stetson (5-2-1, 2-0-0 A-Sun) has won three straight heading into the contest after defeating Belmont 1-0 and Lipscomb 4-0 this past weekend. Jonathan Mendoza leads the A-Sun with 14 points as he has three goals and eight assists on the year.
The Eagles (6-2-2, 2-0-0 A-Sun) come into the weekend on a four-game win streak. FGCU edged out Lipscomb 2-1 and Belmont 2-0 last weekend. The Eagles also have a win against No.5 Ohio State under their belt as they defeated the Buckeyes 1-0 at home earlier in the year. Keeper Adam Glick leads the way for FGCU as he has posted three shutouts on the season and leads the A-sun in save percentage.
