Saturday, October 09, 2010

DELAND, Fla. (Oct. 8, 2010) - Stetson had two first half goals as the ETSU men's soccer team saw its five-game win streak come to an end Friday night falling 2-0 to the Hatters at the Stetson Soccer Complex in DeLand, Fla.

"Considering the significance of the match, this was a disappointing performance from us," said head coach Scott Calabrese. "I expect the players to respond to this defeat and be ready to compete against FGCU on Sunday."

The Bucs (7-3-0, 2-1-0 A-Sun) were outshot by Stetson (6-2-1, 3-0-0 A-Sun) in the match, 17-12. The Hatters also had an 8-6 advantage in corners.

Ryan Asare-Bediako gave the Hatters a 1-0 advantage in the 9th minute as Asare-Bediako headed a cross from Jonathan Medoza off of the left post into the goal.

Sophomore Alesi Osorio (Austin, Texas) just missed leveling the game in the 22nd minute as he played a ball towards an open net, but Stetson's Andreas Schnabl made a great save to keep the score 1-0.

In the 34th minute, Kai Eckenrode increased the Hatters lead to 2-0 as Fredrick Brustad and Joakim Helland combined to find Eckenrode for a counter attack goal.

ETSU outshot Stetson 7-6 in the second half, but the Bucs were unable to get on the board as the final was 2-0 Hatters.

The Bucs are back in action Sunday as they head to Fort Myers, Fla. for a 6 p.m. contest against Florida Gulf Coast. For more information on ETSU men's soccer and all other Buccaneer athletic news please visit www.ETSUBucs.com.
