Bucs ranked No. 7 in South Region
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (August 30, 2011) – Following its, 3-0, defeat of Presbyterian over the weekend, the ETSU men’s soccer team entered to NSCAA/Continental Tire regional rankings on Tuesday, being voted No. 7 in the South Region.
“I think this shows that coaches believe we have continued to improve as a program and respect the work the players have done to try and rise to a higher level of college soccer,” said head coach Scott Calabrese.
The NSCAA ranks the top 25 teams nationally on a weekly basis, as well as the top 10 teams within eight different regions (Far West, Great Lakes, Middle Atlantic, Midwest, Northeast, North Atlantic, South and South Atlantic).
The Bucs, a member of the South Region, entered the regional rankings for the first time in program history on September 28 of last season, coming in at No. 8. ETSU spent six of the next seven weeks in the regional rankings and, during the week of November 2, achieved its highest ever ranking of No. 6 after bringing nationally ranked No. 4 North Carolina to overtime.
“Being ranked can quickly change if you don’t perform up to your potential,” said Calabrese. “It’s important that we continue to work as hard as we can in training to be prepared for the games that lie ahead.”
Lying ahead for ETSU is the No. 3 team in the South Region, UNC Greensboro, on Wednesday, August 31, in Greensboro, N.C. at 7 p.m.The complete NSCAA/Continental Tire South Region rankings for this week are as follows: 1.
