Last week: ETSU dropped its season opener at Appalachian State, 1-0, on Friday night in Boone, N.C. David Dodge put the Mountaineers ahead in the 13th minute with a goal off a cross from Matthew Melton, and ETSU could not find the back of the net on any of its eight shots through the game. Senior Franck Doumbe (Silver Spring, Md.) was the Bucs’ leading shot taker, firing three in 62 minutes of action, while Appalachian State’s Josiah Tower led all shot takers with four tries at goal.
Women’s Soccer (4-0-0)
This week: The Lady Bucs have a light schedule this week as ETSU hits the road for the third time this season. ETSU puts its four-game winning streak on the line Sunday afternoon at Middle Tennessee State. Game time is set for 2 p.m. (EST) at Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium. Live stats and video will be provided courtesy of Blue Raider athletics.
Last Week: ETSU continued its perfect start to the season after earning wins over Presbyterian (3-2, in overtime) on Friday and Radford (1-0) on Sunday, both at Summers-Taylor Stadium. Junior forward Ramey Kerns (Kings Mountain, N.C.) enjoyed an outstanding week, which saw her register three goals. Kerns began the weekend with two goals against the Blue Hose on Friday, while scoring the only goal in the win over the Highlanders. Meanwhile, transfer Andie Stone (Austin, Texas) scored the golden goal in overtime versus Presbyterian. Junior Samantha Kron (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) sent in a corner in the 93rd minute, which Stone won in the air and put in the left side of the net to claim the Lady Bucs’ third straight win. With the win on Sunday, ETSU tied its program record for most consecutive victories to start a season. The Lady Bucs’ other 4-0-0 start came in 2003, when it once again took down Radford, 1-0, on Sept. 12 in Johnson City.
This week: The ETSU volleyball team plays four matches, beginning with a non-conference game at Presbyterian on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. Live stats will be offered via GoBlueHose.com. On Friday, the Bucs open play at the Clemson Classic with in-state rival, Chattanooga. Game time is set for 4 p.m. Then, on Saturday, the Blue and Gold face Charlotte (12:30 p.m.) and Clemson (4 p.m.). Live stats for the tournament will be available by visiting ClemsonTigers.com.
Last week: The Bucs opened up the 2012 campaign on a positive note by winning three of their four matches at the Gamecock Invitational. ETSU opened the season with a come-from-behind win over UNC Asheville, 3-2, while finishing play on Friday with a sweep over Temple. On Saturday, ETSU started the day with a grueling four-set win over Akron, while having its rally fall short versus South Carolina. After dropping the first two sets against the Gamecocks, the Blue and Gold battled back to win the third and fourth sets; however, ETSU ran out of steam in the fifth as South Carolina claimed the tournament championship. Individually, junior Megan Devine (Kingsport, Tenn.) and sophomore Meredith Hardy (Kingsport, Tenn.) landed all-tournament team honors at the conclusion of play.
This week: After going through several preseason workouts, the ETSU men’s and women’s cross country teams hit the trail for the first time in 2012, when the Bucs compete at the Covered Bridge Open on Friday evening in Boone, N.C. Sophomore and reigning Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year, Filip Jalovy (Modrice, Czech Republic), will guide the men, while junior Chelsea Clark (Fairmont, W. Va.) is the top returner from a season ago.
Last week: Preseason training.
