Bucs battle Bisons Friday for trip to A-Sun Tournament Final

FORT MYERS, Fla. (Nov. 14, 2013) - For the second time in as many weeks, the ETSU men's soccer team will face off against Lipscomb; however, with this meeting coming in the conference tournament semifinals, the implications of the match are far more clear: win or go home.


The second-seeded Bucs (8-5-4, 5-2-1) will take on No. 3 seed Lipscomb Friday, Nov. 15 at 4:00 p.m., a team ETSU played host to Nov. 2, in which the result was a 0-0 draw. In the match, the Bucs outshot Lipscomb, 19-5, holding Atlantic Sun Player of the Year Omar Djabi to a single shot attempt.

ETSU has suffered just one loss in its previous five meetings with the Bisons (9-8-2, 4-3-1).

On the line Friday will be a trip to the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship Final and ETSU's hopes of making its second NCAA Tournament appearance in four years.


The Buccaneers have suffered just one loss over the past month of play, falling at Northern Kentucky, 1-0, Oct. 23. In that timeframe, ETSU has outscored its opponents, 12-4.

ETSU finished the regular season with an overtime road win over regionally-ranked Wofford. A 99th-minute header from senior co-captain David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) gave the Bucs a 3-2 win.

A conference-best 10 ETSU players received Atlantic Sun all-conference honors this week, including four All-Atlantic Sun First Team selections, three All-Atlantic Sun Second Team recognitions, and three All-Atlantic Sun Freshman Team selections. Senior co-captains Ryan Coulter (Dublin, Ireland) and Nate Hodges (Meridian, Miss.) were named Atlantic Sun Goalkeeper of the Year and Defender of the Year, respectively.

Over the past two weeks, the Bisons have picked up just one win, but the timing of the victory could not have been any better.

Wednesday, Nov. 13, Lipscomb fought off sixth-seeded Jacksonville, 1-0, grabbing the win with a 62nd-minute header from Luke Gearin.

Both teams recorded nine shots and 16 fouls each.
