Coulter, Fubara, and Geno earn regional recognition

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Dec. 11, 2013) – Following one of the most successful seasons in ETSU Men’s Soccer history, seniors Ryan Coulter (Dublin, Ireland) and Itode Fubara (Ogbema, Nigeria) were named to the NSCAA/Continental Tire All-South Region First Team, while fellow senior David Geno (Kingsport, Tenn.) earned a spot on the All-Region Second Team. This year marks the fourth consecutive season ETSU has seen at least one player receive regional recognition.

This season, Coulter, Fubara, and Geno helped the Bucs clinch the program’s second NCAA Tournament berth in four years by winning the Atlantic Sun Tournament Championship.

FIRST TEAM

Coulter, ETSU’s all-time leader for wins (30), shutouts (25), and saves (179), was named Atlantic Sun Goalkeeper of the Year for the second consecutive season. Earning 10 shutouts on the year, the senior co-captain became the A-Sun’s all-time leader for career shutouts, breaking a record that previously stood for nearly two decades.

Fubara, who ranks among the Top 5 in program history for career goals (8), assists (13), and minutes played (6,525), joined Geno in becoming the first ETSU players to be named to the Atlantic Sun All-First Team three times. The Ogbema, Nigeria, native became the first ever ETSU student-athlete to be named a finalist for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, for which a winner will be announced during next week’s NCAA College Cup finals.

SECOND TEAM

Geno, ETSU’s all-time leader for goals (26), assists (19), and points (71), has earned a spot on the All-South Region First Team the past two seasons. The senior co-captain tied Emmanuel Wilson as the team’s leading point-scorer this season, scoring 10 points in 16 games (three goals, four assists).
