ETSU men’s soccer opens preseason practice
Wednesday, August 12, 2015

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Aug. 12, 2015) – The ETSU men’s soccer squad had its first organized practice on Wednesday, as the team prepares for the upcoming 2015 season. ETSU will begin exhibition play later this week, as the Buccaneers host the annual Blue & Gold match on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m.

The Bucs’ first practice of the year consisted of one-touch passing drills to work on accuracy and precision. The team then split into teams of four where they played games against one another, while other teams conditioned on the team’s practice field.

Each game would last 10 minutes with winners and goals being recorded. These rigorous and fast-paced games gave the team a taste of what head coach Bo Oshoniyi expects out on the field this season.

“The guys had a lot of nerves today and it showed in the beginning of practice,” said Oshoniyi. “We want to challenge the team’s mentality as we get ready for the preseason.”

With several new faces out on the field for the Bucs, the team will work on their mentality while becoming a team.

“We are starting to become a family on the field,” said junior defenseman Jeffrey George (Safety Harbor, Fla.). “It will take time and work to get where we need to be. We just have to put out a lot of energy.”

ETSU finished last season with an overall record of 7-10-1, while going 4-3-1 at home. The Bucs had impressive wins over 2014 SoCon Tournament champion Furman and Southeastern Conference foe South Carolina. One of the key returners this season is junior Joao Ramalho (Monte Santo, Brazil) who was named the SoCon Men’s Soccer Player of the Year last season.

The men’s first regular season game will take place on the road at nationally-ranked Clemson on Aug.28 at 7 p.m.
