JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Sept. 22, 2015) – The Southern Conference announced Tuesday that ETSU graduate student, James Smith (Eastbourne, England), was the player of the week for the week of September 14-20. He won this honor over two other nominees: Jeremy Booth of Mercer and Leeroy Maguraushe of UNCG.
Smith won the honor for his outstanding plays against the nationally ranked Kentucky Wildcats. He scored the first goal of the game in the 19th minute, which was the fastest goal scored this season. He also dished an assist in the 47th minute to Mitchell Cecatiello (Pascagoula, Miss.) to extend the Buccaneers’ lead to 3-1.
Smith currently is tied for the team lead and sixth in the SoCon in points (5). He has two goals and an assist so far this season. He has attempted 14 shots with five on goal, which is the second most by an ETSU player. He scored his first goal of the season against High Point on September 1.
So far in his career, Smith has scored 19 goals, 20 assists, 58 points, and seven game-winning goals in 65 games. He has started every game in his career since 2011.
