It’s been four years since Aaron Schoenfeld left East Tennessee State University for the professional soccer ranks. On Sunday, his team, the Columbus Crew, will play in the biggest game in American professional soccer.
The Crew will face the Portland Timbers in the MLS Cup, Major League Soccer’s version of the Super Bowl. The game will be televised on ESPN at 4 p.m.
“It’s pretty electric here lately,” Schoenfeld said this week. ”It’s been fun. It’s been a good ride. I hope we can finish it off with the championship.”
Schoenfeld, a Knoxville native who graduated from Bearden High School, appeared in 17 games this season and scored one goal in his team’s last regular-season game.
