JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (July 7, 2016) – ETSU Head Coach Bo Oshoniyi announced Thursday the 2016 men’s soccer schedule, which features seven non-conference matches including No. 4 ranked North Carolina and Conference-USA Champions Kentucky.
The Bucs will hold their annual Blue and Gold match on Aug. 13 at Summers-Taylor Stadium to open their preseason. To conclude their exhibition schedule, ETSU will travel to Virginia Tech on Aug. 16 and host crosstown rival Milligan College on Aug. 20.
To open the regular season, ETSU will travel to High Point on Aug. 26 and will open their home schedule against George Mason University followed by Appalachian State at Summers-Taylor on Aug. 31 and Sept. 3, respectively.
ETSU will see their toughest part of the schedule from Sept. 9-21 including three games on the road during that span. On Sept. 9, the Bucs will travel to play West Virginia University followed by UNC in Chapel Hill, N.C. on Sept. 13. The Tar Heels finished atop the Coastal division in the ACC last season and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament after falling to Syracuse in the quarterfinals of the ACC Tournament.
Following a tough back-to-back matchup, the Bucs welcome I-26 rivals UNC Asheville and will then hit the road to face C-USA champs Kentucky on Sept. 21. The Bucs defeated, at the time, No. 15 Wildcats last season at home 3-1 by scoring two goals in the first half and extending their lead in the second half to complete the upset.
The conference schedule starts on Sept. 27 in Greenville, S.C. as the Buccaneers square off against the SoCon Tournament Champions, Furman Paladins. Mercer will travel to Johnson City in early October, and then the Blue and Gold will travel to Wofford and UNCG on the 4th and 8th.
After six of the last eight matches on the road, the Bucs will host four of the next six matches to conclude the regular season. ETSU and VMI will play the home-and-home matches within a week, and Wofford will travel to ETSU on Oct. 15. The Bucs will complete their 2016 schedule versus Furman (Oct. 22) and UNCG (Oct. 25), followed by an away match at Mercer on the 29th.
The Southern Conference Quarterfinals will be held at the higher seed sites on Nov. 5 with the top two teams to receive a bye into the semi-finals. The semi-finals and championship matches will be held at the UNCG Soccer Stadium from Nov. 11-13.
