JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (Dec. 7, 2016) – Three ETSU men’s soccer players were named to the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America) Men’s All-South Region this week with Jonny Sutherland (Chester, U.K.) claiming the second team goalkeeper position and Serge Gomis (Dakar, Senegal) and Fletcher Ekern (Knoxville, Tenn.) earning third team All-Region honors.

The 2016 Goalkeeper of the Year received another accolade, as he was the lone goalkeeper on the All-South Region second team. Sutherland finished the season 28th in the nation in goalie minutes played (1857:03) and 49th in goals against average (0.921). The Chester, U.K. native sports a 1.06 goals against average along with 14 career shutouts. He finished the historic season with an 11-5-3 record between the posts, a three-win improvement from last season.

First team All-SoCon striker was placed on the third team All-Region after a team-best nine-goal season. Ekern was first on the team in goals scored, first in shots (46), first in shots on goal (20), tied for first in game-winning goals (3) and second in points (20). The Knoxville native has 20 career goals with 5 assists for a total of 45 points as a Buccaneer.

Also a first team All-SoCon selection, Gomis was tabbed to the third team All-South region after his first year with the Blue and Gold. He played in 17 of the 20 games for ETSU along with 15 starts at the midfield position. He recorded three goals including a game-winner in the SoCon semi-finals against UNCG. The Dakar, Senegal native recorded 1286 minutes on the pitch for the eighth-most on the ETSU team this season.
