Prior to ETSU: Kennedy was a four-year starter at East Gaston High School ... as a freshman, Kennedy helped to guide his high school to the best conference finish in four years ... at the club level, Kennedy has been a consistent fixture at left back for Charlotte United in 2004, where the team eventually finished as state champions ... since 2006, Kennedy was the starting left back for the talented Charlotte Soccer Club 89 Blue under Charlie McGinty, and helped it to the North Carolina State semifinals in 2007...  Kennedy’s club team was the North Carolina state champions in 2008.
