East Tennessee State Men's Tennis Finishes Fourth In Great Eight Shootout Norfolk, Va. - The men's tennis team was defeated 4-3 by Arkansas-Little Rock to finish fourth in the Great Eight Shootout at Old Dominion University. With the loss, ETSU drops to 6-5 on the season.
ETSU opened the match by sweeping the doubles. Gustavo Gomez and Juan Yannuzzi defeated Pettigrosso/Murra 8-5 at No. 1. Marcos Pavlovich and Roberto Fernandez def. Calancea/Baca 8-0 at No. 2; Matt Keeter and Ricardo Nava def. Diez and Iniesta 8-6 at No. 3.
In the singles matches, Arkansas-Little Rock won four of the six matches to take the victory. At No. 1, Iniesta (ALR) def. Gomez 7-6, 6-2, 7-5; No. 3, Fernandez def. Murra 2-6, 6-4, 7-6; No. 4, Pettigrosso (ALR) def. Yannuzzi 6-4, 6-4; No. 5, Baca (ALR) def. Nava 1-6, 6-2, 6-2; No. 6, Diez def. Bugge 6-4, 6-2. The No. 2 match between Pavlovich and Ncube was not completed.
ETSU will return to action on March 24 when it hosts Wofford College in a Southern Conference match at 2:00.
