Tuesday, June 01, 2004JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (June 1, 2004) - The 2004 CoSIDA University Division Men's At-Large Academic All-District IV teams were announced. Two athletes from East Tennessee State University's men's tennis team were among the 20 student-athletes that were recognized. The district team is made up of student-athletes from Division I schools in Alabama, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and Tennessee. Senior Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) was named to the first team, while junior Moisés Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) was named to the second team. The pair were selected based on their athletic and academic performances. Overall, the men's tennis team finished first in the Southern Conference with a perfect 10-0 SoCon record, and was 20-6 in overall play. The teams won the SoCon tournament to earn an NCAA berth, but were defeated in the first round by TCU. Individually, Iglesias finished the year with a 22-10 overall singles record at No. 3 and recorded an 18-12 record in doubles. He is majoring in corporate finance with a minor in marketing and holds a cumulative GPA of 3.905. Serrano went 19-13 in overall singles primarily at No. 5 and went 18-14 in doubles. He is majoring in physics with a minor in math and holds a 3.794 cumulative GPA. Both Iglesias and Serrano were named to the All-SoCon second team in singles and doubles. To be nominated, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve and carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or higher. Team members are selected by a vote of the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) within the district. The CoSIDA Academic All-District Team is a part of the CoSIDA Academic All-America program. First team selections will appear on the national ballot for the CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's At-Large team to be announced June 15.
