TULSA, Oka. (Oct. 1, 2009) - ETSU sophomore Sander Gille (Kuringen, Belguim) will contiune a great tradition for the Buccaneer men's tennis team as the Kuringen, Belgium native competes in the 2009 D'Novo/ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., Saturday.
A total 128 singles player and 64 doubles teams will head to Tulsa University, in one of the fall's most viable tournaments. Of the 128 singles players, 16 will advance from the pre-qualifying tournament this weekend.
Gille - a 2008 Atlantic Sun Conference second-team member - is coming off a 1-1 performance at the rain shortened Southern Intercollegiate two weeks ago. Gille, blew past Alabama's Michael Thompson 6-3, 6-1, before falling in the Round of 16 to No. 20-ranked Boris Conkic of Tennessee.
A season ago, Gille burst onto the scene competing for the Bucs in the No. 2 singles position. Overall, the ETSU newcomer posted a 18-11 record, including ranked wins over players from No. 30 Minnestoa, No. 57 Middle Tennessee State, No. 6 Georgia, No. 36 Wisconsin, No. 66 Elon and No. 23 North Carolina.
