Second consecutive selection
MACON, Ga. (March 7, 2013) – ETSU men’s tennis senior Jesus Bandres (Caracas, Venezuela) took home back-to-back Atlantic Sun Player of the Week honors in the wake of leading the Buccaneers to a defeat of USC Upstate and extending his winning streak to six matches.
Bandres got ETSU (5-4, 1-0 A-Sun) on the right track to begin conference play, defeating Yvon Haessig, 6-1, 6-4, in the top singles match to help the Buccaneers down the Spartans, 5-2. The senior’s victory extended his singles winning streak to six, as he now stands 12-10 overall, 6-2 dual and 1-0 A-Sun.
In doubles, Bandres and sophomore Rogerio Ribeiro (Sao Paulo, Brazil) beat the Spartans at No.1, taking care of Haessig and Gonzalo Blanco, 8-6. The set win got ETSU’s top tandem its first dual win of the season and a 1-0 record to being the A-Sun slate.
The weekly A-Sun honors are the second of the season for Bandres and the fourth of his ETSU career. The Buccaneers have boasted the conference’s player of the week three times this season with Roger Ordeig (Gurb, Spain) being recognized the week of Jan. 30.
