NEW HAVEN, Conn. (Feb. 2, 2014) - Following a dismal showing against nationally-ranked Dartmouth, the ETSU men's tennis team responded in a big way Sunday, picking up a 5-2 road win over No. 58 Yale.

The 68th-ranked Buccaneers (2-5) were paced by strong singles play from senior Roger Ordeig, as well as underclassmen Ricardo Pabon, Sebastian Yllera, and Ismael Merino.

Ordeig and Merino each won in straight sets at No. 5 and No. 3 singles, respectively, while Pabon and Yllera earned three-set victories.

Pabon outlasted Yale's Zachary Krumholz, 6-5, 4-6, 6-3 to win the No. 6 singles spot. Meanwhile, Yllera came from behind to take down Martin Svenning at No. 2 singles, 5-6, 6-4, 6-1.

"The team came out a bit hungrier after our loss against Dartmouth," ETSU head coach Yaser Zaatini said. Yale competed hard, and I have to say that we didn't look great, but we fought for everything."

Friday, Jan. 31, ETSU suffered its worst loss in nearly a year, falling 7-0 at No. 64 Dartmouth.

With his win over Daniel Faierman, Merino improved to a team-best 4-2 in singles play.

"I hope this win brings our spirits up, and helps us gain some confidence for our future matches," Zaatini said. "Beating a ranked team on the road is always a big deal."

The Buccaneers will look to continue their winning ways when they visit No. 3 Georgia Thursday, Feb. 6.

Last season, the Bulldogs (2-1) advanced to the national semifinals before falling to eventual national champion Virginia.

Georgia will enter Thursday's match coming off a 4-0 loss to No. 4 Southern California.
