ETSU Downs Furman In Men's Tennis

Johnson City, Tenn. - ETSU defeated the host Furman Paladins 4-3 in a hard fought, emothional contest between two unbeaten conference teams at the Minor Mickel Tennis Center in Greenville, S.C.

Furman opened the match by winning all three double matches to claim the doubles point. Midway through the singles competition, rain forced the suspension of all six singles matches. After a one hour delay, play continued indoors at the Mickel Tennis Center.

ETSU went on to claim four of six singles matches to win the match. Roberto Fernandez won the clinching match as he rallied to defeat Furman's Drew Parker 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 at #3 singles. Furman won at #5 and #6 as Patrick Gaughan and James Moeckel won straight set matches.

Furman falls to 18-11 on the season, 7-1 in the Southern Conference. ETSU improves to 14-7, 6-0 in the league. ETSU returns to action on Saturday, April 15 at 2:00 when the Bucs host Chattanooga at the ETSU Tennis Center. -30-
