Men's Tennis in HEB Tournament This Weekend

Johnson City, Tenn. (March 7, 2002) -East Tennessee State's men's tennis team heads to Corpus Christi, Texas to compete in the H.E.B Championships being held from Friday, March 8th through Sunday, March 10th at the H.E.B Tennis Center and the Corpus Christi Country Club. The Buccaneers will face the Texas Tech Red Raiders tomorrow at 8:30 am at the Corpus Christi Country Club in the first round of the tournament. ETSU is 3-2 overall this season. The Bucs' two losses came to # 12 Tennessee and # 35 Wake Forest while defeating # 70 Memphis. ETSU sophomore Diego Iglesias (Mar del Plata, Argentina) is currently on a roll for the Bucs with a 4-1 singles record with his lone loss being to Mike Murray of Wake Forest. Texas Tech is 4-3 on the season. All three losses by the Red Raiders were to nationally ranked teams. The Raiders are bringing with them 59th-ranked junior Royce Ramey, who is 8-3 this season in singles action. Nationally ranked programs in the tournament include Middle Tennessee State (# 21), Boise State (# 66), Louisville (# 69) and Memphis (# 70).
