East Tennessee State Tennis Teams in Action at ETSU Fall Intercollegiate

Johnson City, Tenn. -- Members of the East Tennessee State men's and women's tennis teams were in action Friday in the first day of competition at the ETSU Fall Intercollegiate from the Liberty Bell Tennis Complex in Johnson City, Tenn. In men's competition, Francisco Diaz advanced to Saturday's semifinal round in men's flight 4 singles after receiving a first round bye and then defeating Anders Ohlsson of Anderson College 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (5) in the second round. In women's matches, Jessica Irey has advanced to Saturday's semifinals in women's flight 1 singles after defeating Shelby Fitzpatrick of Western Carolina 6-4, 6-2 in the first round and Nancy Livesay of UNC Asheville, 6-1, 6-2 in the second round. Tatiana Arrarian defeated Vita Feldmane of Virginia Intermont 6-2, 6-2 in the first round of play in women's flight 2 singles before falling to Lucian Tamburim of Tennessee Tech, 6-2, 6-4 in the second round. Aimee Villavicencio has advanced to the semifinals of women's flight 4 singles after receiving a first round bye and then defeating Millicent Dunn of Carson Newman in the second round 6-2, 6-1. In doubles action, the team of Irey and Villavicencio advanced to the quarterfinal round of the women's flight 2 bracket after defeating Dunn and Danielle Wilson of Carson-Newman, 8-5. Play at the ETSU Fall Intercollegiate will continue Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Tomorrow's ETSU matches are as follows: 9:30 a.m. Jessica Irey vs. Lupita Hernandez (Tennessee Tech) 10:00 a.m. Aimee Villavicencio vs. Louise Holmivk (Tennessee Tech) 1:30 p.m. Francisco Diaz vs. Sergio Tejada (Virginia Intermont) 6:00 p.m. Irey/Villavicencio vs. King/Munn (Western Carolina)
