No. 69 Men's Tennis Falls to No. 16 Virginia Commonwealth

RICHMOND, Va. (January 26, 2003) - 16th ranked Virginia Commonwealth, host of the VCU Men's Tennis Invitational, defeated visiting No. 69 East Tennessee State 5-0 on Sunday. It was the Buccaneer's first loss of the 2003 season after opening tournament with wins over Delaware and Norfolk State. VCU won all of its singles matches in straight sets except at the No. 4 slot. ETSU's Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Colombia) to the Ram's Francesc Lleal to three sets before falling, 2-6, 6-1, 10-3. In doubles, the tandem of newcomer Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) and Francisco Diaz (Weston, Fla.) lost to Daniel Casquero and Julien Lousao, 6-4, 6-4. East Tennessee State's next match will be this Friday, Jan. 31 versus No. 23 Wake Forest. Singles Florian Marquardt def. Marcos Pavlovich, 6-2, 6-1 Marton Ott def.
