CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (October 22, 2003) - The East Tennessee State men's tennis team began the first day of the Omni-ITA Region II Indoor Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C. with two players advancing in singles qualifying competition.
Moises Serrano (Bucaramanga, Columbia) defeated Stefan Rozycki of Duke 6-3, 6-3 to advance, while
Fernando Fiuri (Villa Maria, Argentina) eliminated Wofford's Alex Fridzon in a score of 7-6 (4); 6-3. Frederico Ochoa (Manizales, Columbia) was knocked out of competition by William & Mary's Steven Kane 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles competition, the pair of Fiuri and Serrano were defeated 8-2, by UVA's Marko Miklo and Stephen Rozek in the first round.
Serrano and Fiuri move on to the round of 32 to face North Carolina State's William Noblitt and Dennis Myers, respectively, in the second day of competition. Matches begin at 8:00 a.m.
