Bucs tennis falls to Belmont in semifinals, 4-2

MACON, Ga. (April 14, 2006) - The top-seeded ETSU men's tennis team fell to fourth-seeded Belmont by a score of 4-2 Friday afternoon at the John Drew Smith Tennis Center. While the score was 4-2, the match lasted for three hours.

           

The Bucs took the lead early as Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) defeated Ignacio Gesto and Alex Gillott, 8-5 in the No. 2 position. At the No. 3 position, Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) were victorious as they defeated Felipe Lima and Felipe Abreu, 8-6.

 

In singles action, the Bruins would pick up four wins in hard fought matches with Lisandro Picardo as the only Buccaneer to win a match. He defeated Ignacio Gesto, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 5 position.

 

"I didn't feel that the team was prepared for what happened, but sometimes as a coach you can see how things will play out," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.

 

The Bucs who finished the regular season first with and 8-0 A-Sun record ends the season 19-7 overall, while the Bruins will face Stetson in the finals on Saturday.
