ETSU men's tennis defeats Campbell, 6-1

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (March 3, 2006) - The Buccaneers men's tennis team defeated Campbell in their conference opening match today. The Buccaneers now improve to 8-5 on the season while the Camels fall to 4-4.

            In No. 1 doubles action, Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) and Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) were defeated by Gabriel Delarue and Ryan Mills, 9-8. Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Vasja Gorjup and Sebastian Thesleff, 8-5 in the No. 2 slot, while in No. 3 doubles Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Matt Stanley (Kingsport, Tenn.) were defeated by Marc Sifre and Artoym Starkov, 9-7 to allow Campbell to clench the doubles point.

            The Bucs bounced back and dominated in singles action, all six matches in straight sets. In No. 1 singles Oscar Posada defeated Marc Sifre, 6-1, 6-1. Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) defeated Vasja Gorjup, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 2 position, while Juan Crosa defeated Artoym Starkov, 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot. In the No. 4 position, Enrique Olivares defeated Gabriel Delarue, 6-2, 6-1. Lisandro Picardo defeated Ryan Mills, 6-4, 6-4 in the No. 5 position. Sophomore Sebastian Serrano defeated Sebastian Thesleff, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 6 slot.

           

            The Bucs are back in action Sunday, at home, against the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles at 2 p.m.
