Bucs drop heartbreaker to No. 16 Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (February 4, 2006) - The ETSU men's tennis team fell to No. 16 Tennessee, 4-3 at the Goodfriend Indoor Tennis Center in Knoxville on Saturday. The Bucs are now 4-3 on the year while the Volunteers improve to 2-1 with the win.

            Tennessee took the lead early by winning the doubles point. In No. 1 doubles Adam Hubble and Ben Rogers defeated Juan Crosa (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Oscar Posada (Valencia, Venezuela) 8-4 and Bobby Cameron and Kaden Hensel defeated Felix Insaurralde (Asuncion, Paraguay) and Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) 8-2, at the No. 2 position to clench the doubles point. The No. 3 doubles match was suspended with Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) in the lead 6-5.

            In singles action, ETSU tied the match at one when freshman Enrique Olivares defeated Adam Hubble, 6-1, 6-4 at the No. 4 singles position. In the No. 1 position, Oscar Posada was defeated by Bobby Cameron, 6-1, 6-4 and Kaden Hensel defeated Juan Crosa, 6-2, 7-6 in the No. 3 position to give the Tennessee the lead. Senior Felix Insaurralde and sophomore Sebastian Serrano helped the Bucs tie the match up, 3-3 with victories in the No. 2 and No. 6 singles slots. The match was decided in the No. 5 singles position when Lisandro Picardo was defeated by Derek Stephens after a hard-fought match, 6-7, 6-3, 6-1.

            "The match lasted about five and half hours and went down to the wire. We were really close to breaking through, but we just fell short," said head coach Yaser Zaatini.

            ETSU's next match is scheduled for next Saturday, February 11 when the Buccaneers travel to Athens, Ga. to take on the University of Georgia Bulldogs at 2 p.m.
