SAN ANTONIO, Texas (March 4, 2007) - The No. 48 ranked ETSU men's tennis team continued their winning ways as they defeated the 75th ranked University of San Francisco Dons, 6-1. The Bucs improve to 10-3 on the season as San Francisco falls to 5-4.

 

The Bucs took a 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point. In the No. 2 position, Enrique Olivares (Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela) and Sebastian Serrano (Cartagena, Colombia) defeated Greg Hom and Einar Hart, 8-5, while Lisandro Picardo (Mar del Plata, Argentina) and Felix Insaurralde defeated Thong Tu and Rainer Nachbauer, 8-5 in the No. 3 position. In the No. 1 slot, Travis Sandlant (Werribee, Australia) and Alex Ahlgren (Tyreso, Sweden) fell to the duo of Matthew Berry and Asaf Cohen, 8-5.

 

In singles, Olivares defeated Rainer Nachbauer, 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 position, while Insaurralde defeated Thong Tu, 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 3 slot. Serrano defeated Asaf Cohen after a tough battle, 6-3, 5-7 (11-9). Picardo and Ahlgren also picked up wins for ETSU in the No. 5 and 6 slots respectively. Picardo cruised by Mitch Del Rosario, 6-0, 6-1 while Ahlgren overcame Einar Hart, 6-2, 6-3. The Dons earned their only point when junior Predrag Burmazovic (Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro) fell to Matthew Berry in the No. 1 slot in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-4.

 

"I think we were very solid today. When we were traveling out here our plane blew an engine and it wound up taking us over 36 hours to get here," said head coach Yaser Zaatini. "We played as good as can be expected under the circumstances with a lack of practice and the different weather conditions."
